Product Review : Maybelline Full' N Soft Mascara

I haven't really done a non-sponsored review in awhile. That's because of all the deadline I've been showered with =/ I also still owe someone a review for a facial scrub > o < Soon soon, all in due time!

Moving on with my review, today's product will be something from Maybelline BUT it's currently still NA in SG.

The very highly recommended Maybelline Full' N Soft Mascara! Xteeener loves it too :D I actually bought this because of her!

Has quite a big and fat brush.

If you've read my previous post about mascara and their wands, you'll know that this is a number 3 brush except that it's fat all around. Of course if you've forgotten, you can read about it HERE!

Left - Without / Right - With, looking straight ahead

Here's the before and after. Please note that lashes have been curled already. Just from the photo, you can pretty much tell that this mascara weighed my lashes down already. I honestly think that mascaras that are not waterproof tend to be heavier and generally unable to hold curls.

With mascara on, looking straight ahead

Don't be freaked at my eyeball! I'm just trying to show the curls :) As you can see, there's almost no curl. It really weighed my lashes down and they're somewhat as good as non existent.

With mascara on, looking upwards

I have to look up for my lashes to be more visible. But that wouldn't really work because I can't be looking up all the time.

With mascara, eyes closed

This mascara does do what it claims to be able to do. My lashes are indeed fuller and no doubt, they're still soft though I can't let you all touch them. The main thing I don't like about this mascara is that it "uncurls" my lashes because of how heavy the formula is. Then again, it might be just my lashes because this mascara worked well for others. My lashes usually only remain curled IF the mascara is waterproof. This one isn't so those who like waterproof mascara should take note!

The other thing about non waterproof mascara is that they usually smudge. This one is no exception. It gives me panda eyes after a few hours especially when I start getting oily. Personally, I don't like to risk getting panda eyes because I'm just anal about looking like a ghoul. And if you can tell from the way I'm speaking/typing, I'm not going to repurchase this mascara.

In my honest opinion, you can get a better mascara regardless of whether it's waterproof or not. This one gives volume but it's not like a "whoa" kinda effect. It's pretty natural actually so if that's what you want, you can consider this. I still prefer to stick to my FairyDrops or Majolica Majorca one. Waterproof ones are still my favorite because so far, only waterproof ones keep my lashes up.

Ability to hold curls : ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ (Weighs my lashes down instantly upon application.)
Lasting Power : ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ (I really hate mascara that smudges!)
Volume : ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ (It's just too subtle in my opinion.)
Overall : ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ (Unfortunately, I really don't like this.)

Cheers,
Chiharu ❤

Disclaimer : I bought this with my own money. Just because it didn't work for me does not mean it wouldn't work for you. Xteeener loves it but I don't so who knows, maybe you will too. My review is based on my experience with the product.

Product Review : FAIRY DROPS Platinum Water Proof Mascara

Okay, we've had quite a lot of skincare reviews for awhile now. It's also been a very long time since we last reviewed a mascara! Here's one from FAIRY DROPS!

Do note that Ringo's review is not included this time round as she is usually busy and it'd be really weird to ask her out for mascara shots!

TADANG! The FAIRY DROPS Platinum Water Proof Mascara ~ Can you see that this mascara has FIVE kinds of treatment essence?! FIVE, namely Collagen, Scwaren Oil, Hyallon, Jojoba Oil and Panthenol. We all know what Collagen is so I'm not gonna talk about that. Unfortunately, after researching, I still have no idea as to what Scwaren Oil and Hyallon is. Jojoba is pronounced as HOHOba! Most people don't know that but now you do! Jojoba oil is supposed to provide moisture so I'm guessing that in this case, it'll condition our lashes. As for Panthenol, it is also moisturizing and it supposedly coats our hair and seal the surface, lubricating our hair shaft and making it look shiny. So... We'll have glossy lashes?

Here's a sneak peek as to what the wand will look like!

The back of the box. Because I can't read Japanese, I did not take a close up of the box.

This however seems to illustrate the effects of the mascara well!

GOTTA LOVE THE PACKAGING! It's like a shiny metallic warm pink with white graffiti like illustrations on it. There's like white sparkles and the overall packaging is just so cute? Not girly but cute. Did I mention that I really like pink?

Now you can see the unique wand!

Close up of the wand! Personally, I hate my mascaras to have a brush applicator. It's usually too big for my eyes and I have the tendency to just stick it in when I'm not careful. Then it'll turn into a black mess on my eyes and I have the I-just-got-punched look. This applicator however makes life so much easier. It's curved to fit the contours of our eyes and catches our lashes easily with those three little balls. The tip of the wand is also slimmer so that you can catch the tiny lashes at the front of our eyes.

Now I'm going to show you the before and after!

Left with mascara, right without, looking straight ahead.

Left with mascara, right without, looking downwards.

Left with mascara, right without, looking upwards.

Here's a sideways one for you all to see the curls!

So how does this mascara fare in terms of length, volume and curls? I have to say that this mascara really matches up to my favorite MM one. It's not very visible in the picture of me looking straight ahead because I have eyeliner on. However when you look at the looking upwards picture, you can see that my lashes are nicely curled and both length and volume is there! It's supposed to be waterproof and smudgeproof much like my MM one and it works exactly like it is supposed to. It sometimes flakes into my eyes though and that hurts a little but I don't think most people will face this problem. I face it because sometimes I stick the mascara wand too close to my eyes. I can wear this all day without any smudging and this is really waterproof.

In fact, it's a pain the the butt to remove this! I am unable to use my Dove lathering remover for this, I have to use my Biore one instead because this is one tough mascara. This however only means that it really holds your curls in place and lasts you an entire day?

Also, do note that this will work well with a curler but not the batter operated heated curler. This mascara is NOT YET available in any outlets in Singapore BUT you can get it from BlingAlways for just $32.90! They have a whole range of hard-to-find skincare and cosmetics there so it's a great place for online shopping~

Thanks to them, you can look forward to a CandyDoll 2 way cake review, coming up soon!!!

Ability to hold curls : ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (Up and curled all day!)
Lasting Power : ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (No smudging nor flakes on me~)
Length : ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (Really long and length is buildable.)
Volume : ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ (Would love for it to go on thicker but maybe that's why this mascara isn't clump?)
Overall : ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (The brush makes application a breeze and a few wriggles will do the trick. One coat gives you nice lashes so I personally believe it's quite worth the price!)

Cheers,
Chiharu ❤

Product Review : Maybelline HyperSharp Liner

Once again, it's the time you'd consider an extremely early morning. I feel like Domokie's lacking a certain nutrient, and that is make up reviews! Or maybe it's just me but recently it's been either skincare or events! So here's one to satisfy me, Domokie and all the make up lovers out there~

Before that! Have you voted for us on Ginvera today? If no, PLEASE! Vote for us HERE. If we win, we'll be having an exclusive giveaway for all Domokie fans with.. Dollywink! And the Ginvera products too~ All votes are sincerely appreciated, TIA!

Now presenting...

The very new and exciting...

Cool right! Maybelline's now selling makeup pouch. Okay no I'm kidding. Really. Remember the event I went to at Forever 21 HERE?

It was so nice of Maybelline to send me a press kit for that event that also featured their new HyperSharp Liner!

These are the templates given in the press kit! You can use them to draw funky designs beside your eye area or even on your cheek!

These two are my personal favorites. I'm girly as you all know well enough by now...

Not forgetting the star of this post, the HyperSharp Liner! I really like the choice of colors here. It's so... I don't know how to describe it but the gold cap and words give a pop of color to the usual boring black. Also, I like the color gold. But no over-using too please.

I tried really hard to get the whole of the ingredients list in but... Yes I failed and I apologize. I hope this is good enough.

Here's my favorite part of the liner. I believe you all will find it familiar. You've seen the same kind of brush on the Dollywink and the Pink Brown one! The whole fine pointy little brush is made out of fine bristles that makes it similar to the structure of a paintbrush. They may look similar but this liner has no metal balls to clank within. Sounds weirdly phrased but very true.

Here's the swatches. They look really light but trust me that's just the light bouncing off it! It's as black as my Dollywink one and I really love that fact. Here's a picture of it on my eyes to show it's pretty black. You can draw a thick or thin line depending on the way you hold the brush! Scroll up to see how fine the tip is~ You can line extremely close to your lashline and make it super thin for a very natural look!

You can click to enlarge it further. Yijing's using the liner too!

Click to enlarge! I'm not lying about how pigmented it is!

This is my attempt at doodling with the eyeliner. I love wings and this is sort of like my recreation of those cute wings from animes! It bleeds a little because I have dry shriveled skin. Not on my eyes of course. It works really crisp and precise on my eyes.

At the moment, it sounds like a fantastic product right? Here's the downside. It smudges on me because I have really oily lids. I've tried using a primer underneath, powdering it like crazy... But it still smudges on me. However, let me state at this point that my lids are one of the worst kind out there, anything that's NOT liquid cannot stay on me and even those that are liquid might not stay on me. I would suggest people who doesn't have SUPERBLY EXTREMELY oily lids to try this. Or swatch it when you swing by Watsons :) It retails at Watsons for $19.90 if I am not wrong!

Texture: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (Very pigmented and doesn't take a long time to dry)
Application: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (As mentioned, I love such applicators. Smooth, clean and crisp lines!)
Lasting power: ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ (A little bit of smudging but I'm just very anal towards any smudges at all.)
Overall: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (I think it's worth a shot, considering how it's way more affordable and available than Dollywink! I think this is a great dupe!)

Cheers,
Chiharu ❤

Disclaimer : This liner was sent to me by Maybelline as part of their press kit. I received it because I attended the event that they were the official make up sponsors of. Once again, this will never affect the honesty of my reviews.

Product Review: Etude House Oh M'Eye Line (#01 Black) Eyeliner

As with quite a few of my cosmetics, this was given to me by Chiharu as well. It's pretty handy, though nowadays I tend to use the Kate liquid eyeliner more.

On to the ingredients' list. For eyeliners I tend not to be as particular with the ingredients since they typically contain too many ingredients for me to bother checking them out individually, but I didn't have any allergic reaction to this, and my eyes are pretty sensitive, so I think it's pretty safe.

Like most liquid eyeliners though, try not to get it in your eyes. The Etude House one is drier than Kate's, so there's a lesser chance of that happening, though. With Kate's, the eyeliner sometimes sting my eyes if I'm sloppy and it runs.

The brush tip is thicker and bristles not as fine as Kate's, so you can't get a well-defined line as compared to that, but it is rather decent. The ink tends to collect at the tip though, so you might have to wipe the excess dried eyeliner off after multiple usage. The ink is not as pigmented, but drier and more matte than Kate's, so it's suitable for days when you prefer a less sleek/ sharp eyeliner.

These days I like my eyeliners to be thinner though, so I don't use this as often anymore.

A close up of the brush. As you can see, the tip is more rounded.

And the efficacy test. It does well if you want a thicker line, but is a little harder to control if you prefer a finer one. As for lastingness, it can last for most of the day, though may flake if you have drier creases or a tendency to rub your eyes (like me). It comes off easily with make-up remover though, isn't waterproof but doesn't smudge easily.

I think it's more affordable than Kate's liquid eyeliner. So if you plan on getting a liquid eyeliner, you may want to consider this. Though earnestly speaking, if you put on eyeliner quite frequently, it's better to invest in a better one since they can last for quite long if stored correctly. (Never leave your liquid eyeliner uncapped for too long, and if in a clear bottle, store in a shaded place because ink turns color when exposed to sunlight.

Application:  (Brush tip a little too big for me)
Pigmentation:  (A matte black that's relatively pigmented)
Lastingness:  (Tends to flake if you have drier creases or itchy fingers)
Overall:  (Not bad for its price)

Product Review : Maybelline Vibrating Pulse Perfection Mascara

So we included this product in our GIVEAWAY, how can we not review it?

The product I'll be reviewing today is actually supposed to be reviewed by Ringo. However I forgot that her computer has dieded so I shall be an apple for today for this post only! \(^ ^)/

It's the... *DRUM ROLL!!!*

Ta-da! By the way it's supposed to be limited edition too but no worries, we're giving one away for free! Let me get on with the review first.

Why am I showing you this picture? I don't want all of you to be an idiot like me. I kept pressing down on that gold button but my mascara did NOT vibrate!!! Then I panicked thinking my mascara was faulty. And then I realized I'm a dumbo. There's actually a sticker that you have to pull out to activate the batteries. I already tore out the sticker in this picture so this is just a reminder.

This is what the brush looks like. A little too far to see clearly. So scroll down!

A teensy bit out of focus but you cannot blame me, I tried my best. At least you can see the wand quite clearly? It's not really made out of those bushy bristles but more of a rubbery plastic applicator? And I really like how the wand curves.

Can you see? The middle part of the wand is sorta "thinner" so they can catch your lashes better. Of course other than showing you the brush I can't really show you the vibrating part.

Now let me show you our eyes!

Ringo's eyes first :

Left with mascara, right without, looking straight ahead.

Left with mascara, right without, looking downwards.

Left with mascara, right without, looking upwards.

So as you can see, Ringo's lashes are really long AGAIN. These pictures were taken with a really light coat of mascara okay. It was almost midnight and we both had work the next day so we applied the mascara very hurriedly. At the very least we did manage to coat our lashes evenly! And as you can see from the looking upwards picture, no clumps!

Chiharu's eyes :

Left with mascara, right without, looking straight ahead.

Left with mascara, right without, looking downwards.

Left with mascara, right without, looking upwards.

Very obviously, this mascara gives me the length I really really need. From the picture of me looking upwards, you can see that there's no clumps too! See how LONG they are! Also pardon the redness okay, I just washed my face before hand so usually I'm reddish.

Ringo on the left and Chiharu on the right

I understand the curls look a little wonky but remember, it was past midnight when we took these pictures!

For this mascara, I haven't had any flaking or smudging problems. The vibrating mascara makes life easier because now I don't have to keep wriggling my wand through my lashes. This vibrating motion does the coating well by itself! Also this mascara is supposed to be more for lengthening than for adding volume. If you're looking for length, this is a good one to go for! Besides, you can try your luck at getting it for free in our giveaway~

At the same time you'll also wonder, what if the battery dies? Will it become a useless mascara?

NO!

Remember how I was a dumbo the first time I used it? Yea in the end I went ahead to use it without the vibrating function because I thought mine was faulty. Guess what? It still works perfectly! I guess you just have to do the vibrating manually as in wriggling your wand. It's still a great and fun mascara. It can be a dupe for the Lancome Oscillation Mascara but I can't be sure cause mine dried and died already so I cannot do comparison pictures for you.

Ability to hold curls : ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ (Not the best but still does quite a good job!)
Lasting Powder : ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (No smudging, no flaking~)
Length : ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (You can really get long lashes if you build it up with patience!)
Overall: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (I own one, Ringo owns one, do you want to own one too?)

So... If you do want to own one, join our GIVEAWAY HERE! It's ending soon so don't miss it!

Cheers,
Chiharu ❤
